The Memory of Water

"..a play as rich in humour as it is in emotion and performed with such sensitivity as to make this a night out to remember." London Theatre Magazine

"Deeply moving and seriously funny"  Remotegoat Review

Gathered together in the midst of a blizzard, three sisters are tasked with organising their mother's funeral. They argue, trying to reconcile the events of the past with their own muddled present. These events may have been shared but their memories of them differ wildly, especially when a husband and a lover are drawn into this bewildering whirlpool.

"The Memory of Water", once a West End hit with Alison Steadman, Samantha Bond and Julia Sawalha, is a roller-coaster ride of emotion. Described in the Guardian as "a deeply felt, richly funny study of the pervasive power of the past" Shelagh Stephenson's Olivier award winning comedy examines the nuances of family life, and shows us that sometimes there is a difference between our recollections and the truth. Eyal Israel, directing, says "Watching the play is like going to someone else's Christmas; funny, surprising, yet strangely familiar".

What's on Stage say "If you're into bittersweet comedy, this play may be just to your taste"

The sisters float around their own islands of memory, unable to agree on one particular point, and yet are unified by one thing.

"Our mother runs through us whether we like it or not"
