Antonia Franceschi - Resident Artist
ANTONIA FRANCESCHI was a leading dancer for many years with The New York City Ballet where she worked with Balanchine, Robbins, and Martins, among others. Since moving to London she has worked with Mark Baldwin, Wayne McGregor, Michael Clarke, Arlene Phillips, Matthew Hart, Cathy Marston, Karole Armitage, and Anthony Van Laast. Antonia has appeared in Mark Baldwins films for television Point Blank , Frankenstein, is featured in Merchant Ivory’s The Golden Bowl, as well as produced four New York Ballet Stars programs for The Sintra Festival and The Royal Festival Hall for which she won a Time Out Award. Antonia played a lead in the film “Fame” and has also performed The Vagina Monologues in the West End. Antonia wrote, co-choreographed, and performed “Up From The Waste”, directed by Nancy Meckler, to critical acclaim.
She recently was interviewed for “Balanchine Then And Now”.
Antonia has choreographed for The Linbury (ROH), The Place Theatre, Turtle Keys; The Sintra Festival, The Albany; The Wharehouse, The Gantry; The Music Box, and the London Contemporary School, and has commissioned scores from musicians Allen Shawn, Gary Yearshon, and Zoe Martlew.
Antonia loves teaching for companies such as Richard Alston, Alvin Ailey, Rambert, Random, Billy Elliot, Ballet Black and Scottish Ballet, among others.
