Dark Tales
by Hans Christian Andersen
A Giant Olive Production
Simple, direct and honest, embracing the terrible beauty of these timeless tales and moulding them into a fresh experience.
Synopsis:
GIANT OLIVE’s Travelling Storytellers bring to life an array of tales by Hans Christian Andersen, including Big Claus Little Claus, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, The Story of A Mother and more. This is GIANT OLIVE’s first production of 2009, following its recent critical and commercial success with their acclaimed production of A Christmas Carol, under the guidance of new artistic director Ray Shell.
Working against the sanitisation of the stories which has occurred over the last century, GIANT OLIVE strips them back to their raw, savage imagery. Simple, direct and honest, the production embraces the terrible beauty of these timeless tales and moulds them into a fresh experience, complete with Danish nursery songs.
Ray Shell & the Artistic Directors of GIANT OLIVE aim to develop the Lion & Unicorn into not just a producing house but also into a receiving venue for visiting shows. GIANT OLIVE also aims to develop the Lion & Unicorn into a springboard for unique writers, directors and performers. |
