TENNESSEE WILLIAMS – “DESIRE AND THE BLACK MASSEUR”
SHORT STORY adapted for the STAGE!

After rejecting his female boss’ advances, Ashley suffers guilt and anxiety about his repressed desires. He falls asleep at work and embarks on a journey of self-discovery with Lloyd, his black colleague and real focus of passion.  As his new identity emerges, Ashley’s journey turns into a dark battle for his soul.

In a startling and uninhibited adaptation, playwright MATT HARRIS and director VERNON DOUGLAS bring an adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ dark and compelling tale of obsession. Under the shrink-title “MEAT” the storyline is a journey into the shadowland of Ashley’s obsession for Lloyd. But is his reality lucid – is it real?

“MEAT” is described as ‘combining physicality with the traditions of the film noir influence’ and as an ‘adult exploration’.

Vernon is a member of the Genesis Young Directors Programme at THE YOUNG VIC and artistic director of ODD MAN OUT. His credits include work at
