It was Owen's meeting of Sassoon that helped develop him into the voice of a lost generation and Not About Heroes, through its sensitive study of their conversations, letters and Sassoon’s memoirs helps us to understand the impact these two great men had on each other.
Written by Stephen MacDonald in the early 1980's and rarely performed since it's production at the National Theatre in 1986, Not About Heroes is a beautifully realised piece exploring the relationship of the great war poets, Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen during the final year of World War 1.
This first production since Stephen MacDonald’s death will be produced by Spartan Dogs in association with Giant Olive Theatre Company at the recently remodeled Lion and Unicorn Theatre in Kentish Town and will be held in conjunction with a series of events to mark the anniversary of Armistice Day

“I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Spartan Dogs and the Giant Olive Theatre Company for choosing Help for Heroes (H4H) as one of the beneficiaries of ‘Not About Heroes’ – what a fantastic example of people ‘doing their bit’! We are incredibly grateful for the support, and we promise that every penny raised makes a very great difference to the lives of those wounded in the service of their country. The Great British public have been behind H4H from the beginning, enabling us to raise over £109 million since the Charity launched in October 2007. All of these funds have been allocated or spent on the direct, practical support of those who have been wounded in the current conflicts.”
