First performed in 1752, in Venice, The Hostess of the Inn (La Locandiera) was one of the first stage portrayals of the modern woman who brings together traditional male and female characteristics in order to remain in charge of her own fate. Its heroine, Mirandolina, is possibly the first female comedy character who entertains not because of the any ridiculous traits, but through her wit and her cunning. Especially commissioned by Giant Olive to celebrate the company's official launch.
