It is 1829 and Ireland is as usual convulsing with a fermenting underlayer of bitter conflict. In this volatile setting the wayward, compulsive and beauteous Kitty Galloway goes astray from her rural homeplace. She is re-discovered some months later by her old lover Davy Cochrane and her neighbour Ned McIlduff in the town of Belfast. She is in the dubious company of Edmund Kean the celebrated tragedian.

A murderous, exciting and hilarious sequence of mishaps and adventures sees Kitty and Ned land up in the nefarious squalor of London. Here Kitty manipulates herself towards a career on the stage. A malicious betrayal and then mistaken identity results in a sad but fortuitous tragedy. After the stressful cruelty of London the quietness and peace of the Irish countryside on a rare hot summer day is the setting for the poignant but uplifting finale.

Featured Article

"It's big and bold enough to engage a large audience in a plush auditorium, but the material and the up-front playing of it feel totally right in Giant Olive's increasingly buzzy space."

"Kitty Galloway is a pretty little thing who must have a lot to tell her priest if she ever goes to confession."

"..this is a touching exploration of the passions that drive, destruct and delude the human spirit. At its core is a moving tale of wanting to better oneself against all the odds."

"wild plotting and vigorous prose make you wish there were more ambitious, new history plays like it on the fringe."

timeout

"..an adventurous, heartfelt comedy with humorous, genuine characters and a touching plot lined with tragedy. "
