The Sexes

Following last year's debut, 'Clothes To Fall Apart In', The Off-Off-Off-Broadway Company returns with 'THE SEXES' – a darkly amusing, gender-bending portrait of a relationship written and directed by Polis Loizou.

After years of playing lovers on stage, Lars (Laura Louise Baker) and Jaquée's (Jaacq Hugo) off-stage marriage is tested when they find they are both vying for the same, gender-unspecified film role: that of a ‘prostitute with f***ing tuberculosis.’

Jaquée suspects her husband of wanting the role not only to further inflate his ego, but also to reunite with his friend, former collaborator and possible lover, Billy Chapel. While Lars suspects his wife of wanting the role solely to boost her credibility, it becomes apparent that there may be long-buried secrets driving her need to perform…

A provocative blend of theatre, video and new writing, ‘The Sexes’ is ultimately the study of old wounds and crumbling façades.

Polis Loizou (25) has written and directed a number of short films, music videos and two stage shows. His work has been exhibited at festivals such as London Independent and the UN’s We The Peoples.
Jaacq Hugo (24) is a performance artist and film graduate. Aside from starring in a number of short films, he also devised the company’s debut piece, ‘Clothes To Fall Apart In’, and is currently exploring the realms of music and spoken word.
Laura Louise Baker (23) discovered a penchant for acting in primary school and continued to explore her performance work while studying film at university. She is currently working on her own one-woman show.

‘A very clever drama. A commendable and enjoyable performance!’
– Buxton Fringe Review of ‘Clothes To Fall Apart In’
‘Profound… Superb… Well worth an hour of your time.’ ¬– Three Weeks review of ‘The Sexes’
