"Comic gothic shocker full marks"

I went to see "Supernatural" with more than a little trepidation. The idea, to update the stories of MR James and WW Jacobs, seems a ludicrous one. These are writers whose work belongs to another time and to another genre. Their stories weren't written for the theatre or even the cinema. They were written to be read by a roaring fireplace. It is a great credit, therefore, that the writers of this play have managed to construct a piece that works perfectly.
